Webb15 maj 2011 · I popped off my oil cap this evening to find a grey colored sludge on the cap. Does anyone know what this is? The truck has 9600 miles on it. Oil is changed at the dealer at 2500-3000 mile intervals. Last change was around 1000 miles ago. Only mod to the engine is a S&B CAI. On gas V8 engines it is usually caused by leaky intake manifold gaskets, but I don’t know on these Cummins. I This may be why the previous owner got rid of it, as it was probably an expensive fix.
