WebNov 9, 2009 · I want to grow enough cuttings to make a new hedge in a year or two's time. Yesterday I cut my old beech hedges and just plonked some of the cuttings in a nursery trench. Each cutting is about 18 inches, I took most of the leaves off and pushed them in about 6 inches deep. I've tried this before without much luck.
